Annual Report 2007: A Transformational Year
Oxford BioMedica (LSE: OXB) is a biopharmaceutical company specialising in the development and commercialisation of innovative gene-based medicines. 2007 was a transformational year for Oxford BioMedica – the two key objectives of partnering the lead product TroVax and starting clinical trials with ProSavin in Parkinson’s disease patients were achieved.
College Hill’s Life Sciences team (previously Northbank Communications) was commissioned to create the Company’s 2007 Annual Report, drawing on experience gained from five years of working on the Company’s Annual Reports.
Objectives
- To create an 80 page Annual Report with an engaging theme and tone to position Oxford BioMedica as a mature biotech company and a leader in gene therapy and cancer immunotherapy
- To communicate the theme that 2007 was a ‘transformational’ year for Oxford BioMedica
- To follow new best practice guidelines stating that the report needs to be as clear as possible, facilitating the reader’s navigation through the relevant sections and providing transparent corporate information
Our Approach
- College Hill came up with a timeline-based theme to communicate key milestones that had occurred over the year in the relevant company sections. This theme was chosen as it communicated the transformational nature of the year
- We continued to use the primary and secondary corporate colour palette as a continuing link from previous reports and introduced striking photography to illustrate the milestone achieved in each section
- We communicated corporate and product objectives met over the year to shareholders, including partnering the lead product TroVax and starting clinical trials with ProSavin in Parkinson’s Disease
- We provided a clear indication of the strategy and objectives (KPIs) for the coming year in line with best practice. These included communicating goals such as advancing clinical programmes, partnering activities and retaining commercial rights for products
- The contents page was designed to give more information than in previous years, to guide people through the report and tell readers what they can expect from each section. We also used a clear signposting system to help readability and referencing using different colours for each section
- Market data sections were included to provide investors with background information. These were drafted by College Hill and included as clear sections within the product pages, differentiated from the main text these sections. Statistics were illustrated using graphs taken from credited market data sources
- The Company’s new positioning of their product pipeline to focus on stage of development (rather than indication) was reflected in the report and consistently updated on the website. A pipeline diagram included in the company overview clearly illustrated the advanced and early-stage portfolio
Results
- An Annual Report positioning Oxford BioMedica as a leader in gene therapy and cancer immunotherapy and clearly communicating the Company’s achievements over the year
